Other fish
This section is for fish that doesn’t fit into any of the other categories. Some of them are rarely encountered in pet shops and must be purchased directly from breeders or importers, while others are fairly widespread within the hobby, such as the charming Clown Loach Botia macracanthus. Clown loaches will do best in aquarium where they have several suitably sized PVC-pipes to relax in and can easily succumb to ich in barren aquariums where they can’t find good hiding spots. For various reasons, large predatory fish are not that common in the hobby but there is a fairly large crowd of highly dedicated aquarists who love to house large carnivores and are both willing and able to provide them with the space and food that they need. One example of a group of skilled predators occasionally encountered in aquaria are the arowanas. Most arowana species reach a length of 60-75 centimetres (24-30 inches), but some will grow up to 120 centimetres (48 inches). As you can see, these beasts require really huge aquariums and you shouldn’t get a juvenile arrowana unless you know for sure that you will be able to give it a suitably sized home as it grows bigger. In the wild, arrowanas jump out of the water to catch insects in midair so a secure lid is recommended to prevent accidents.
