Aquarium forums
Aquarium forums are a great way of exchanging ideas and keeping in touch with fellow aquarists, regardless of your current geographical position. In the olden days, aquarists had to rely on advice obtained from a handful of books, the local pet shop and – if they were lucky – one or two local aquarium clubs. Today, fish keepers and other aquarists from all over the world can meet online to exchange experiences, show off their pets, and debate hot topics like live food and ich remedies. Some aquarium forums are very general and contain sub-sections for virtually all types of aquatic endeavours, while others or more specialized, e.g. catfish forums, marine forums and forms dedicated to large predatory fish only. Many aquarists frequent multiple forums to obtain unbiased advice from as many sources as possible regarding ambiguous subjects like fish breeding and fish health. Most forums allow you to read all post without signing up first, but will ask you to become a member before you post anything. Becoming a member is usually a hassel-free process where you pick a username and provide them with an e-mail address. Most aquarium forums have very strict policies regarding e-mail privacy and will not allow evil spammers to get their hands on the addresses, but if you’re still reluctant to hand out your private e-mail address you can always use one of the many free e-mail services available on the net to create a separate e-mail account for forum memberships.
